Literacy & Out-of-School Learning

The Children’s Foundation of Mississippi works with partners to strengthen literacy and out-of-school learning opportunities for students, families, schools, tutors, and community organizations.

Children’s learning does not happen only during the school day. Families, tutors, afterschool programs, community organizations, and local partners all play a role in helping students build strong literacy skills and access high-quality learning opportunities.

This work includes the Children’s Foundation of Mississippi’s role in SOAR United, a multi-year literacy initiative focused on high-impact tutoring for K through 5th-grade students in rural, out-of-school settings.

SOAR United builds on a model that has shown success and is now growing to reach more students, families, and communities. As the initiative expands, the Children’s Foundation of Mississippi helps bring more visibility to the work happening through local hubs, tutors, families, and partners.

Through SOAR United, the Children’s Foundation of Mississippi supports community partner mapping, storytelling, parent and caregiver engagement, resource development, communications, stakeholder meeting summaries, data collection support, and coordination across partners.
